Small Businesses To Soon Provide The Boat, And Vessel Service To Govt ON e Commerce Portal GeM
The
Government e-Marketplace (GeM), which was created in a world-record five
months, allows various government agencies, organizations, and PSUs to acquire
common goods and services online. GeM aims to improve the speed, efficiency,
and transparency of public procurement. It provides e-bidding, reverses
e-auction, and demand aggregation solutions to enable government users to get the
most bang for their buck.
GeM
is a paperless, cashless, and system-driven e-marketplace that allows you to
buy ordinary goods and services with little to no human involvement. GeM
removes human contact in invoice submission, order placing, and payment processing
to a great extent. As an open platform, GeM has no entry barriers for reputable
suppliers looking to do business with the government. At each stage, SMS and
email notifications are sent to the buyer and his/her organization's head, as
well as the paying authorities and vendors. The transparency, efficiency, and
ease of use of the GeM portal have led to significant price cuts on GeM as
contrasted to tender, Rates Contract, and direct purchase prices.
The
government will soon establish a boat and vessel service on its e-commerce
portal, Government e Marketplace (GEM), as well as service providers, to handle
the supply, manning, operation, and maintenance of the necessary boats. GeM is
considering several new services to broaden its offers after deleting thousands
of undesirable categories from the web earlier this year.

Language
services for interpretation and translation work have recently been added, as
have professional manpower services such as administration, accounts, human
resources, finance, and servicing, water tanker supply services, data center
operations, courier service, climate goal agencies, and more.
As
of November 27, 2022, GeM had 10,738 product categories and just 269 service
categories out of roughly 11,000 categories, offering 29.39 lakh products and
2.33 lakh services.
From
the perspective of the customer, the union cabinet approved the addition of
cooperatives as buyers on GeM in June of this year. Over 400 cooperative organizations
in India have registered on the GeM portal in the last three months, according
to the Department of Commerce. The geM was launched in August 2016 and
presently has 54.62 lakh vendors, with the first 10 lakh sellers registering in
the first 4.5 years.
